The Legend of Pirate Alligator

Legend has it, once upon a time there was a River called Tulang Bawang River, which well, known for its wild alligators that live along the River. The wilderness of the alligators often disturbs the villager’s shipping activities. Often heard many people disappeared as if swallowed by earth, left without any news.

One day, people are troubled with another missing person news. The missing person name was Aminah. The strange thing was even though all villagers of the Tulang Bawang River bank were looking for her, they did not find any trace, as if she was gone swallowed by the earth.

In a far and hidden place, within a very big cave Aminah was laying. She was recovered from collapse. She was very surprised to see the cave was filled with very valuable object. There were diamond, gold, jewels and beautiful dresses. The object sparks very bright lights. Still shocked, in the corner of the cave she heard a very heavy voice that surprised her even more. Aminah dragged her body to move further from the beast.

“Do not fear me beautiful girl! Even though I appear as an alligator, I am a man like you. I was cursed to become an alligator because of my evil deeds. My name was somad, I was once a skilled pirate in Tulang  Bawang River. The alligator continued. “Once I always robbed every merchant who passed here. I kept all my loots here in this cave. If I need food I take a little of this treasure and sell it in a village market by River. No one knows I have built a tunnel on the other side of this cave. The tunnel connects this cave with the village”.

Unrealized, the pirate alligator revealed the secret of the hidden cave where he lives. Thoroughly, Aminah listened very carefully and remember the valuable information. The alligator then gave her a present of some jewels. He hoped that Aminah will stay with him. But Aminah’s hope to be back to her village and see her family is very strong.

“Stay with me for a while. I will fulfill anything you ask for” the alligator asked. Look at my treasure, there is plenty of it. You can take anything you want,” he persuaded.
Afraid, Aminah said, “Sorry, alligator. I have to get back home soon, my father and mother must be looking for me if keep stay in this cave,”

On one occasion, the alligator was careless. Because his stomach was full, he was slept and forgot to close the cave door. Carefully and a little bit worried Aminah got out from the cave by walking on her tiptoes. Behind the cave, she found a dark and long hallway. After some time walking the hall, she saw a burst of light coming though. She followed the light. How happy she was to find the end of the hallway leading to a hill, and then she walked out of the hall.

Not long walking, Aminah was helped by the villagers who were looking for rattan. For compensation, Aminah gave present of jewels she has with her. Aminah then returned to her village safely.
